BritBox Announces Next Original Co-Production Starring Keeley Hawes

BritBox, the streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV one of the largest collections of streaming British television in North America, will release original co-production, Honour, in Fall 2020.

BAFTA-nominated Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Tipping the Velvet) stars as DCI Caroline Goode in Honour, the tragic true story of Banaz Mahmod, a London woman killed by her family because of a relationship they considered shameful. DCI Goode (Hawes) tirelessly pursues justice after learning her colleagues failed to protect Banaz, despite five reports of threats to her life. Written by Gwyneth Hughes (Vanity Fair) and directed by Richard Laxton (Mum, Mrs. Wilson), the show tackles the difficult subject of so-called honor killings.

The BritBox Original comes from Liza Marshall (Temple, Riviera) helmed Hera Pictures in association with Hawes’ company Buddy Club. Previously Marshall was Head of Scott Free London, Ridley Scott’s production company, as well as Head of Drama for Channel 4.. Hawes will executive produce the limited series which is Buddy Club’s first production.

BritBox President and CEO, Soumya SriramanIn says: In these uncertain times, we are passionate about continuing to bring important stories to our audience. Honour is a heartbreaking, real story told with care by Keeley, Liza, and team, and BritBox is proud to play a role in sharing Banaz and Caroline’s stories around the world,”

SriramanIn added: “At Hera Pictures we are delighted to partner with Britbox to bring this powerful true story to a wider audience in the US; keeping Banaz’s memory alive and shining a light on the urgent issue of so-called honour-based abuse against women,” said Liza Marshall, Executive Producer. “I am incredibly proud of the quality of the creative team behind this drama led by Keeley Hawes’ wonderful and moving performance.”
